A letter to my three new 'fans'
Dear ...
by Wendy G
Dear Jennifer and Arina,
I was surprised and in fact quite amazed to see a message from each of you in the last few days.
Welcome to FanStory – I see you have both just joined in the last two weeks! I hope you will enjoy posting your writings very soon so we can all get to know you better. As your writing styles are so similar, I think you must be twins – identical twins maybe, or perhaps not quite identical, but close enough that you think alike.
How nice of you to say that you were “captivated by my creativity and the uniqueness in my stories”, (thank you Arina) and that they are a “remarkable journey that captured my imagination with its depth and creativity” (thank you, Jennifer).
Yet, I am a little puzzled, for neither of you has reviewed a single piece of mine. I pay quite well for reviews, although I refuse to buy them with extreme amounts … but no, not a single review of any of my writings. This does make me wonder if you have actually read any of them.
Perhaps you have, as you both want to illustrate my works with your drawings for my characters. Both of you are digital artists too. Same interests and qualifications! Please post your writing soon, illustrated with your artwork, so I can have an idea if our interests and styles align. So far, I don't know if you can even draw a stick figure! I'm sure you can, of course ...!
Oh wait. Perhaps you are triplets, for now, only three hours after Arina, there is another message. I must be becoming quite well-known for my story-writing qualities! This one is from Lyla ….
I am certainly attracting a lot of digital artists at present! Here is Lyla’s letter. Not quite the same as Jennifer’s and Arina’s, but near enough. Welcome, Lyla, to FanStory.
Dear Wendy G ,
I hope you’re doing well. I recently had the pleasure of reading your work, and I was really impressed by your storytelling. The way you handle emotions, the plot, and your characters is truly inspiring. Your story stayed with me long after I finished reading it.
I’m a digital artist and love creating visuals that match great stories. Your writing has given me lots of ideas for art, and I can see how visuals could bring out even more from your story.
I’d love to collaborate with you. Whether it’s for cover art, illustrations, or something else, I’d be excited to help with your project.
If you’re interested, we can chat on Discord (Lyla_Rowan) to talk more. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Thank you for considering.
Best regards,
Lyla Rowan
What a shame my story didn’t stay with you long enough for you to consider writing a review!
Personally, and please don’t be insulted, I want my words to be sufficient for what I present, and I don’t think my readers should have to rely on your digital art to bring out "even more" from my story. If that’s what’s needed, then I have failed.
I thank you for offering your digital art services at your (undoubtedly!) very reasonable rates. However, I think you have overrated my creativity. I am not very imaginative. Mostly, my stories are based on real-life experiences.
Perhaps none of you noticed that my characters are rarely fiction – they are real-life people and animals for the vast majority of my time, and real-life situations. As you do not know these people or animals, I think it is preferable for me to post a non-identifying photo if I choose, or else just select an appropriate free image from the internet.
Of course, the other problem is that there are now three of you, all offering wonderful services to assist me, so how would I ever be able to choose between you? Two would be left disappointed. I therefore feel the need to treat you all equally, so I decline respectfully all your kind offers.
If you have other friends joining FanStory to offer me their services, perhaps suggest to them that I have already declined.
I am sure the three of you will be reading this, so please understand that because I am busy trying to be imaginative and creative, I don’t have time to write three separate letters.
Very sincerely,
Wendy G.

PS Thursday: I have now received a fourth, and I have reported them to Tom, the site manager. Others have been receiving these messages as well.
