Avis and I continue to try...

Aiming to Be the Best for You

Win or lose
I stand confused
because as...
 
Avis tried for a long, long time 
 to be #1, which made them rich,
 proving second ain't so bad
unless you're an egotist
of the nth degree, like me.
Why?
 
I have loved you for years
while being rated 'second-best'
when planting kisses on your lips
which, when heard, is as memorable
as being runner-up in the NC2a's
 
Still, I promise to strive 
while alive or until I die
to try harder than they 
hoping to hear you say: 
"You are the best there is, 
the best there was, and
best kisser you'll ever be...
for me."
 
I'll wait for as long as it takes;
as long as you understand
We will have to practice.

The picture is of me and mine, who continues telling me my kisses still rate number two, but having said that, she married me and not the He she remembers being twice as good, which has me wonder if it isn't a ploy to keep me "trying harder."
