A Quatern about Nature

Cruel Nature

Cruel monster Nature often is
like when Katrina slammed ashore,
tore into levees, leveled homes,
caused damage like no storm before.

Pompeians learned this very quick:
Cruel monster Nature often is.
Vesuvius did bury them.
Few ever heard the lava's hiss.

Tornados spawned as black clouds swirl
will rip apart whole towns and lives.
Cruel monster Nature often is.
'Neath rubble lay dead children, wives.

Her vicious acts are scarce forewarned
and we should all remember this:
To mankind's woes she's cold, detached.
Cruel monster Nature often is.
