Not What They Do

by Aiona

Jesus
Forgave
The one with whom he broke bread
As well as the rest of us
Who nailed
him to
the cross.

Betrayal Poetry Contest contest entry

Thank you to Patricia Law for her shaped poem "Guide My Steps" which inspired me to use a similar shaped syllable count.

Feeling persecuted lately by people I thought loved me and whom I trusted. But, when I read the book of John, Chapter 13, I am reminded my mother's betrayal of me is nothing compared to what Judas did to Jesus. Or even how Peter denied he even knew Jesus, just to keep from being arrested like Jesus was. If Jesus could be betrayed so cruelly, after helping people, healing the sick, and feeding the poor..... who am I? People are cruel. But, we can still love. They can betray me, but they cannot break me.
