Blowing his horn

Trumpet

by Ginda Simpson

His trumpet is broken
It is out of key;
the notes seem empty,
stuck on me, me, me...

His trumpet blares
like a voice pitched high;
the sounds we hear are
the same I, I, I...

His trumpet bellows
but it is small in size.
Could this be the reason
it cheats and it lies?

His trumpet sounds
in many strange ways,
like a cock, it crows;
like an ass, it brays.

His trumpet claims
it will be great again;
we have heard this before
if not now, then when?
