My fondest memories of my early school years are during the 3rd grade. Ms. Davis, my all-time favorite teacher, would read to us after lunch each day. She read chapters from various children's books. My favorite was Doctor Dolittle. She made it come alive with all the adventures Dr. Dolittle experienced with his talkative animal friends, and our imagination soared. I was heartbroken when, in the middle of my 3rd grade year, I was transferred to a new school.
I truly hope there are teachers out there who still read to their young students from real books and not iPads. There is something about turning the pages that excites those little minds about what is just around the corner. Their experience will cultivate a real love of reading and will leave an indelible impression on them for the rest of their lives, as it did me.
