They waited in anticipation
The event of the year

It was to be the event of the year in the remote little village
as nothing much ever happened there.
The residents were all very excited as there was to be a talk by a visiting priest
in the church hall followed by tea and refreshments.
A great chance to wear their Sunday best and socialize.
The day arrived and all the chairs had been set out in rows,
the sandwiches made and the cakes baked when the apology was received.
The talk was to be on Catholic birth control
but the priest had pulled out at the last minute.
