Children never forget Mother's loving touch.

A Loving Mother's Gentle Touch

by Glena Jessee-King

   A LOVING MOTHER’S GENTLE TOUCH

            (A sonnet by Glena M. Jessee-King)

When baby’s cries are heard from its bedroom,

When scraped little knees bring tears to its EYE,

When childhood illnesses come or dark gloom,

Mother’s hand comforts, hurts cease, and faces DRY.

Nothing calms cries as much as her presence:

Nothing frees from fear and life’s unknown HARMS,

Nothing tops Mother’s soothing voice or hand,

Safe, secure, or anchored in Mother’s ARMS.

Knowing that she prays over all matters,

Children grow up, have children of their OWN,

Never forgetting her genuine ways,

And Mother’s seeds of love in them were SOWN.

After she’s gone, nothing will mean as MUCH

As memories of Mother’s gentle TOUCH!

Sonnet Poetry Contest contest entry

A loving mother is a very calming force for children during all stages of their lives. I will never forget my Loving Mother's Gentle Hands. I wrote this poem in the Iambic Pentameter as a Sonnet, making bold and in CAPS the rhyming words in the second and fourth lines of the three stanzas and in the couplet. In the first stanza the first-and third-lines rhyme but are not in bold. I hope this poem brings fond memories to you.
