A Sure Thought

When we were young, we fell in love
Like no one else had ever.
That, we were sure, and sure, as well,
Our love would last forever.

We planned that we would never quarrel,
Nor even disagree.
I'd speak in kindest tones with you.
You'd do the same with me.

With marriage came reality.
Intentions went awry
With jobs and kids and bills to pay.
Yet, still, we'd always try.

Of all we'd thought in courtship days,
One sure thought still is true.
Forever is your love for me,
