The only survivor
Joy
by Aussie
The old man sat in front of the fire. Sparks flew as the wind whistled down the chimney.
He stroked Tiri the fox terrier who was about to give birth. A large blue heeler attacked her whilst she was in heat.
Tiri whimpered as the first pains gripped her tiny body. The old man placed her gently on blankets.
He tottered on match stick legs to get a bowl of warm water. Then rolled up his sleeves and delivered each pup.
Tears ran down his cheeks, each pup was born dead. The last pup whimpered. Smiling, he called her Joy.
