A homeless man that has found a home

Last Sleep

by jacquelyn popp

  Saddened eyes look upward
To glorious colors of a sunset.
I'm not sure where I will sleep tonight
Or for supper what I will get.

Another sleepless night as I wander these streets.
If the the shelter isn't full, then I'll get a warm bed and a hot meal to eat.
I'm tired, cold, and mostly alone
Life used to be good but I  lost everything, and now I have no real home.

My family has nothing to do with me
I guess because they are ashamed.
Things that I thought would never happen made life this way for me
But I am not to blame.

The shelter isn't full so tonight I will sleep.
Tonight I will rest, and it will be different from the nights that I weep.
The morning is here, and I hear different sounds
Sadness, surprise, disbelief, the voices seem to be all around.

"He was young.", some of them say
" I can't believe that he went to sleep and is gone.", on this 21st day of May.
This is my story, as I will no longer wander on the town streets
I went to my home this morning, when I had my last sleep.

I have seen a lot of people homeless, and think of them as I write this poem. And how many younger people have died on the streets, without having a home.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
