Free Verse

O Woman

O Woman how you have bled;
the ages are built upon
your blood and hope
 
your heart blood stains
the pathway of Time
 
creating the 
way forward
 
ceaselessly
breaching the line
 
you bleed for the right
to conceive, to love,
to give life
 
men go a'wandering
full of zest and
adventure
you stay home and bleed
 
from your eyes
your body
your heart
 
watching young 
soldiers leave
for war...
you bleed
 
new teeth, 
scraped knees,
betrayals,
their broken hearts...
you bleed
 
aged care,
vague eyes, dementia...
you bleed
 
stoically you bleed
without questioning why
 
O Woman, you bleed for humanity!
 
standing steadfastly
faithful...
filling your
place in the line
