Scents of Calm

by Mintybee

Could I, perhaps, learn to smell a flower calmly,
calmly breathe in an aromatic bloom?
Blooming inside me is worry, instead.
Instead, I feel the anxiety loom,

loom over a heart that won't be at peace.
Peace should be found in sweet scents breathed in.
In my mind, all is fraught with dangers -
dangers imagined, apocalypses that don't begin.

Begin to trust the world, my heart.
Heart, love the peaceful place where you stand.
Stand in an easier, more carefree fashion.
Fashion a calm within you, that you can expand.

Expand your expectations to include the positive.
Positive you must be, that stillness won't always bring storms.
Storms are something you can learn to ride out.
Out with dread! Make hope your new norm.

Loop Poetry Contest contest entry

One of the hardest things about dealing with anxiety is training your brain to stay in the moment, and just enjoy a good place when you're in it.

This is a loop poem, so the last word of a line must be the first word of the next line. There is a rhyme scheme of abcb. There is no syllable restriction, or limit on stanzas.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
