a seventy-five-word story
Sid
by Bill Schott
The car's engine rolled over, but wouldn't start.
"Try holding your face like this," said Shaun, scrunching his mouth and nose as if he had swallowed something sour and distasteful.
“You’re funny, Sid.”
“Who’s Sid, Shaun?” asked Sully.
“I’m Shaun’s alter, Sully. I appear when he has car trouble, or is about to attempt suicide again.”
“Please say you’re kidding, Shaun.”
“You’re kidding, Shaun.” he said.
Sid turned the key, grinning, then drove away alone.
