Adrift in the wind

Untethered Kite

by Jesse James Doty

Adrift in the swirling currents of wind
I feel like an untethered kite

Lost and out of control
unsupported and unloved

Since Cindy's diagnosis
everything has changed
although I know she still cares
she is unfocused about her future

I want to hold her close
telling her everything will be alright
but all I can do is hug her
until the suffering goes away

I hope when the sun rises on a new dawn
she is cured and herself once again

Then she will give me all the care I need
I'll feel supported and loved
the kite will be tethered,
and I will feel grounded as before

Cindy, my caregiver, has been diagnosed with an aneurysm in her brain. I care so deeply for her as a friend and caregiver, that I feel lost for her care, so I wrote this poem to try to deal with all of this drama and trauma.
