My note to the Big Guy
Dear God
by Earl Corp
Dear God,
This is my first time writing, but I’m a long-time fan. I know I usually communicate with you through prayer, but I felt like I needed to take pen in hand to let you know how I feel.
First I want to thank you for all the blessings in my life. When I pray I ask you to fill my needs and if you have time to fill my wants. And you have done an exceptional job at this.
I have two jobs I love. One is a full-time teacher, and the other is a part-time news reporter. I truly enjoy every day here.
I want to thank you for bringing my wife, Anna, into my life. I know I have had a spotty record with my prior two marriages, but you hit it out of the park when you sent her my way.
Lord, I have shelter and enough food to eat and I know that is because of you. I’ve never asked you for fame or fortune when I pray. That’s because I’m content with the life you have provided me.
I appreciate the fact that I served 12 years in the Army as an infantryman and your loving protective arms wrapped me safely through it.
Thank you for bringing me through three catastrophic illnesses. I lived my life thinking I wouldn’t make it to 50, and when I did it was like an extra bonus from you.
You brought me through my spinal abscess when 47 % don’t make it off the operating table. And your work was very apparent when after being told I’d never walk again. But You and I fooled them, didn’t we Lord? I ended up walking in 54 5k races to prove the blessings you bestow on me.
Getting me through the aortic aneurism was also a sign you’re not done with me here on Earth. And thank you for bringing me through the mini-stroke last January.
Lord, please let my mom, grandmas, and grandpa know I miss them and am looking forward to seeing them again. I’d say the same thing about my dad, but I doubt he’s readily available in your location. And I’m not really looking forward to seeing him again.
Lord, I know this will be a big ask, but could you watch over this country I love? We’re so divided over petty things could you help us to be civil to each other?
Please watch over the situation in Ukraine, since my son is still serving in the Army. Be with the people of Ukraine as you have been for the past year. Anyone who doubts your existence only needs to look at that situation to see you at work.
Well God, my students are about to arrive and I need to get ready for them. I know this is short, but I’ll talk to you later today.
Your obedient servant,
Earl
