Those Darn Masks!

by Jim Wile

Am I protecting me, or is it me protecting you,
When I put on a Covid mask of cloth or paper too?
They’re not at all effective—just a waste without a doubt,
Like putting up a chain-link fence to keep mosquitos out.

Those Covid germs are just too small, they’ll pass right through and then,
No matter who’s protecting whom, they’ll get us in the end.
I’ve stopped believing anything the “experts” have to say,
They’ve been so wrong so many times, and Covid’s here to stay.

So, don’t let Covid spoil your life, don’t give it sovereignty,
Just use your common sense and don’t expect a guarantee,
That masks will keep you safe, they just won’t do the job for you,
So, clear your face, enjoy relief, and share your smile too.

I'm really only talking about cloth and paper masks here. Certain masks, like the N95 mask, have been shown to be effective in blocking Covid germs, although they must be worn without gaps to do so.
