Now that was a surprise
Strumming Along
by jmdg1954
Christmas Eve, 1968. My sister was expecting her first child in February.
Mom asked me to get her present from the spare room and bring it near the tree.
The box was huge, though not particularly heavy. When my sister removed the wrapping paper, it displayed a picture of a bassinet. She asked me to remove it.
To my surprise, inside, was a Fender 4-string tenor banjo. Good bye borrowed one, hello new one.
I marched with the Coral Mummers Band for the next eight years.
I still have the banjo and remain a banjo picker till this day.
