Shattered

It was all there in black and white,
your journal I found hid away.
I read it through that very night,
there was so much you had to say.

I thought our love was truly deep,
that you held me close in your heart.
But now, each night, I'm losing sleep,
your cheating has torn us apart.

Describing each one, with great ease,
how each of them fit in your arms.
Giving expensive gifts to please,
you dazzled them with all your charms.

With every careful word you penned,
your passion, aptly, you described.
Actions you never could defend,
the bonds between us were untied.

Some friends I knew were listed there,
there were some names, I didn't know.
Wondering how, each of them fared,
when came the time, you let them go.

Betraying me was your mistake,
your journal is just ashes now.
This lesson learned was hard to take,
but I'll make it through this somehow.

What's hard for me to understand,
is why write it down it in a book?
Reliving it, part of your plan?
You're not as smart as you once looked.

Thankfully gone, but you're still here,
beneath the floor boards and the rug.
Betrayal has its price my dear
and yours was served up in a mug.

No taste or odor to betray
how deadly it would be to drink.
My shattered heart will stay this way,
as here, alone, I sit and think.

Is love so fragile that it breaks
off bit by bit 'til it's all gone?
My broken bleeding heart forsakes
all hope for love as life goes on.
