Can you say ...

I Love You Still ... despite

by Tom Horonzy

I love you still ... despite,
your slipping through my hands
like an eel fresh from the water.

Despite my many efforts
in pining for acceptance
you reject me as often
as novels to a publisher.

I penned many a love song
 imagining you in my arms
that fail to be recorded
causing me to wonder,
have you a heart?

My dialing your number
frustrates me, as telemarketers
calling mine, for just as I
have no interest in them
your non-reply implies
likewise.

Regardless, I choose to stay
the course of constant love
booming through my veins
for despite the fear of failing
there's this exhilaration
raising my temperature
when I think your name.

Undeterred, I must push on
like postal carriers do each day
withstanding elements such
as heat and cold, rain and snow,
and especially the gloom of night
where I ask you to imagine
my Tossin' and Turnin'
while thinkin' of Only You.

Unrequited Love writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt

Go with the flow you feel or felt when she or he left you out of their dreams/plans or anything where you pined for them, and those emotions went unreciprocated. Any form will be fine.

I read in Scottish Love Poems where King James VI wrote "staye the course of constant love" which led to long past memories of how many ladies I yearned to return my feelings and them be return Unrequited.

Also, note each stanza, adds one more line beginning with three and ending with eight. Clever? I found it to be.

As for the capitalization of the final stanza lines seven and eight, they were two songs from my youth. One by Bobby Lewis and the other, The Platters.
