Being Aware of One's Limitations

Rock Reality

by Sandra Nelms-Ludwig

I had answers,
and when I didn’t I sought and found them
in life’s mired bog.

I had problems,
and when I did,
I most often solved them
impassively prompt.

I was efficient,
fiery calm
and methodically poised
prepared for unspecified passages.

I allowed few circumstances
to shred my stony, self-control.
jagged edges were meticulously
reshaped into roundness.

Now you see it.
Now you don’t.
I proudly preserved,
a resolute, rock mythology.

Now I flounder.
I have no answers,
and can’t find
many solutions.

I try to be calm,
with senses gathered,
To grapple greedy
uncontrollable, possessive grief.

I must dig deep.
The myth is usurped
By crystal, teared reality.
There are times
A ROCK
can and will become a pebble.
