To lose one's life

by royowen

To lose one's life ...

Now if you choose to lose your life, you'll gain the universe,
though I believe lives aren't worth much, they tend to be a curse.
We struggle with our doubts and fears, at best our end is dark,
on looking back on what we've hoped, our days can be just... stark.

When I was young I hoped and dreamt, my dreams becoming dust,
I knew that booze and smoke were like a shipwreck turned to rust.
Where does one go when life's awry, just like a Jockey's seat?
One goes around the racecourse twice, those circles are one's treat.

For when we cross the finish line, I think I'll have a beer,
Tomorrow's race will start again, another falling tear.
So round and round the circus tent, there's really just one end,
as naked born and naked die lies surely round the bend.

But then the Lord showed up one day, such joy can't be described,
He said, "Give up your life for me, my wine you will imbibe."
For there is so much more my friend, in Heaven and on Earth.
God made you for a greater plan, this universe has girth.

Now Jesus is my Saviour Lord, that's how my life began,
it cost His life, but He saved mine, love's broader than Earth's span.
Yes, life is just a roulette wheel, when all is said and done,
a game of chance where no one wins, then comes time's setting sun.

Remember when you rise today, there's really just one name,
you have more value than you know, remember Jesus' name.
For no one else will love you more, just ask and you will see,
the Lord of Hosts, Lord Jesus Christ's the one who'll set you free.

Matthew 10:38-40
And anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me.
