Loss

by Janet Foor

Tradition told us way back when
that right was right and wrong was wrong.
And everyone knew which it was.
It was our motto – t’was our song.

For we were held accountable
when Momma stated, “Just because”.
But now a diff’rent song is sung.
T’will never be the way it was.

The nightmare of a tragedy
where sad unthinkables reside.
Another child's not here today.
Our tears and fears we cannot hide.

A mother’s sorrow, father’s grief.
We question who can be to blame?
If only -- is our battle cry
but sadly – we all bear the shame.

How can we heal these shattered dreams?
Change darkness into morning light?
l have an answer and a name --
the One who died to make things right.

He knew us in our mother’s womb.
With open arms He gently waits.
Awake and see the answers clear.
His love can conquer all life’s hates.

The news media reveals another tragedy almost daily. Sometimes, it hits too close to home as it did for us recently. A young man and friend of our family died unexpectedly. He was 24 years old. He was a twin. He had his whole life ahead of him. This young man had a loving, caring family.  He just didn't fit the mold of the radicals we hear about and yet, here we are mourning his loss and I'm just trying to make sense of it all in the only way I can.
