Approaching Storms

by Sugarray77

Poem of the Month Contest Winner
Horizons filled with blackish ink;
marauding storms are at the brink.
Low rumbles echo groaning pain...
approaching sounds of coming rain.

A silence blankets swaying trees;
all birds have flown from canopies.
Then swishing branches sing refrains...
approaching sounds of coming rain.

White lances flash ~ flung from the sky;
and cracks of thunder shake on high.
The boiling clouds can't hold the strain...
approaching sounds of coming rain.

Loud thuds of droplets hit the dust;
flung out before a windy gust.
Sporadic spatters strike my pane...
approaching sounds of coming rain.

A Kyrielle poetic form in iambic meter.

A Kyrielle is a French form of rhyming poetry written in quatrains (a stanza consisting of 4 lines), and each quatrain contains a repeating line or phrase as a refrain (usually appearing as the last line of each stanza). Each line within the poem consists of only eight syllables. There is no limit to the amount of stanzas a Kyrielle may have, but three is considered the accepted minimum.

Some popular rhyming schemes for a Kyrielle are: aabB, ccbB, ddbB, with B being the repeated line, or abaB, cbcB, dbdB.
