My Job Went To The Dogs

by LisaMay

Funny poem about your job Contest Winner

My part time job was delivering mail.
It had to get through whether rain or hail.
I had to start early — get up out of bed,
then I dragged my feet with mounting dread.

At Christmas time that load weighed a ton.
My friends were away, all having fun,
while I had to pedal a bike up steep hills
delivering presents and household bills.

The neighbourhood dogs were vicious and fast;
they chased me whenever I tried to ride past.
I flew ’round the streets as quick as could be
while a pack of keen mutts all tried to bite me.

I had to think clever to learn some skill —
how to charm dogs when they’re aiming to kill.
I delivered letters and carried some treats.
I distracted those dogs with tasty eats.

Best part of that job was when it was over —
no more darn Fritz, or Muffy, or Rover,
and I had huge muscles in my lower legs;
the pair of them looked like massive beer kegs.
