My Cerebrum's Glum

by LisaMay

Oh, little letter, life isn’t better
without your presence in it.
This prompt is quite odd,
but by goodwill of God
I hopefully will win it!

You were stolen from me
by higher decree.
Now without your help I’ll try,
but how will I get by?
I’m missing you now.
So soon — holy cow!
I’ve only just begun
contorting my words on the run.

When I check this poem I see
my work is just humble debris —
not worthy of top nominee.
Distressingly, woe is me!
My cerebrum’s glum;
this is surely ho-hum.
I will move to improve —
try to get in the groove.

Wherever will I begin?
I'm now groping deep within
to tickle my torpid wits,
reworking the poem’s bits.
I’ve never been one who quits
but, oh bother, this gives me the zits.

Boo hoo, I’m through.
This poem must do.
So now my work is done —
fingers crossed it delivered some fun.
