Who needs enemies?
With Friends Like That...
Mike was alone, no family
to share the little things in life.
A strange new city, brand new job,
he parted badly from his wife.
Mike wanted friends but none so far,
seldom smiled, he wore a frown.
Each day he'd dread just getting up,
dark thoughts he had would bring him down.
One day a girl who lived next door,
he talked to her, she seemed so nice.
She asked if he would join her club,
they meet together each week, twice.
They'd talk and eat, a fellowship
of people with the same mindset.
Mike was unsure but lonely still.
He'd take any friends he could get.
A witches coven is what they were,
Mike didn't know their bad intent.
When Tuesday came, she picked him up,
off to the meeting they both went.
Fifteen or so were gathered there,
soon, Mike saw them for what they were.
Dark arts were practiced, spells were cast,
malice intended, he was sure.
Death spells were used, he knew they'd work.
the victims, to him were unknown.
With no idea why they were picked,
into the fire, their pictures thrown.
What they were doing was so wrong,
he rose to leave but couldn't move.
"You're with us now", is what she said,
"So sorry if you disapprove".
"Just let me leave, it's best for you",
Don't keep me here against my will,
I promise you I won't expose
your club or spells you cast that kill".
"Perhaps you'll die", is what she said,
"I thought I recognized in you,
a person who was just like us,
guess I was wrong", she said with rue.
Mike met his love so long ago
when just a warlock, she a witch.
But he had left that life behind,
his power though, he couldn't ditch.
Uncontrolled, his anger was,
he knew what he had to do.
He lay waste to the lot of them,
where they were sent, well, no one knew.
They should have picked more carefully,
alone once more, it made Mike sad.
Still, on the other hand, he thought,
perhaps solitude ain't that bad.
