Their Lives Matter Too

by tempeste

Two cubs in tow, hungry Polar Bear mom struggles
Harder to feed and rear her young cause
Each year, due to globe warming, the sea
Ice melts earlier. She
Relies on this natural bridge to reach her meal fresh seal which

Lives along the
Ice edge of the Arctic seas.
Viciously hunted by poachers, the majestic
Elephant and other endangered
Savanna dwellers,

Must deal with habitat lose to crops, man's invasion never stops.
Another victim of man's greed is the poor Koala, the Eucalyptus
Trees, its home and source of food, are being
Torn down to make room for urban need.
Evicted mom with cub
Roams on foot near spreading suburbs, risking

To encounter
Other hostile, even deadly
Obstacles like cars and dogs.

Acrostic Poem writing prompt entry

Write an acrostic poem. Acrostic Poetry is where the first letter of each line spells a word, usually using the same words as in the title. See an example in the announcement.

US and Canadian scientists warn that we may lose most of the world's polar bears by the end of this century as climate change melts the sea ice around the Arctic. Disappearing ice forces the bears onto land, where food sources are few and far between, before they've been able to store enough fat to survive. They estimated how long polar bears can survive without food before both cubs and adults start to die rapidly, and found that many polar bear populations have already crossed that threshold. Cubs will be the first to go, they say, while solitary females are likely to last longest. Our best bet for saving the charismatic animals is to rapidly curb our carbon emissions, they add, as that would allow more of the existing populations of bears to avoid starvation.

How habitat destruction affects koalas
Clearing of the eucalyptus forests means that all wildlife, including Koalas, will suffer from:
increased disturbance by humans
starvation
injury or death from traffic
injury or death from dogs and cats
effects of garden pesticides getting into waterways
increased competition for food and territory because of overcrowding
increased stress on animals, making them more susceptible to disease.

In Africa there are people that want to turn a major part of the 400 million hectares of savannah into agriculture land ..such a project would be devastating to the wildlife that already struggles to survive on those lands. Copy and paste link below for more insight.
