Gazing back into the past.
Looking Back
As life slows and memories fade
There are recollections I treasure
First love
High School sports
College
Earned Ph.D.
Second marriage
Two children
And those I wish I could dis-remember
Divorce
Fired twice
Granddaughter’s death
Plans I have accomplished
Teacher
Principal
Superintendent
College Professor
Two books self-published
Attempts that have failed
Divorced fortunately only once
Times I acted with courage
Worked for rights of special students
Taught junior high school
Marched for minority rights
Worked to gather wisdom
Researched issues regarding science and politics
Developed and taught courses for senior educational programing
And not spread ignorance
Supported truth regarding masking and pandemic
Wrote articles against lies and dishonesty
Trust I have been empathetic and have not acted in self-interest
Willing to help family, friends and neighbors
Tried to love my neighbor as myself
As I look back over all the years -
I have tried to bring joy and happiness
And made as few as possible angry or sad
I am the sum of all I have done
In the end I hope I’m remembered
In the hearts of my family and friends
Not for ill but for the good have done
