My toughest time in my life

My Parents

by Goodadvicechan

At age ten, my mother told me my father was in prison, being accused as a spy by the North Vietnamese government.

He was no spy but an international buyer in the clothing business.

I couldn't imagine how my father was tortured in prison.

My mother cried everyday and lost her eye sight.

Being the eldest child, I cooked and washed clothes for a family of four. I became a Buddhist and prayed with tears.

She sold our house and borrowed money to get my father out of prison.

Up to now, I still don't know what exactly happened.

The Prisoner writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
In 100 words, or less, write a short story--not necessarily a flash-fiction, though it could be--on the theme/subject/topic of 'prisoner'. It could be literal or metaphoric.

This happened when I was ten years old in North Vietnam. I had to take care of my eight year old brother and six year old sister and a crying blind mother.

I didnâ??t know how I survived in those days but I didâ?¦

After my father was out, we moved to Hong Kong staying in an apartment shared by three families and three individuals who shared bunkbeds.

We all worked in factories to make a living.
