A philosophical poem

History.

by royowen

We view our hist'ry through a lens,
that sees through other's eyes and pens.
Yet we were never there my friend,
how can we trust how stories wend?

Mistrusting writers with their news,
we think their motives just confuse.
Our politicians spin and ring,
they seem to dance a flagrant fling.

I want to know truth absolute,
to find its source, its way, its root.
Who can we trust to tell the truth
without the bias learnt from youth?

I find environmental ties,
can limit prejudicial lies.
Who tells the truth - objective views,
with pure intent with honest cues?

Yet truth can never be two-faced,
agrees with self; with light it's graced.
I serve the truth, and yet I know,
within its womb, I hope to grow,

But truth is never manifest,
in honest folk who face its test.
But does truth dwell within my gut,
am I confined to liar's rut?

Yet why do salmon turn to blend,
their DNA to futures send?
And why do birds fly south, then find,
return again, what drives their kind?

Truth cannot change, it never bends.
Perfect, just, yet mercy spends.
Men seek its face, but shield their eyes,
'cause truth exposes sin and lies.

We all would say we want the truth, but if our politicians told us what we needed to know and do to economies in order to pay off the national debt, and increase taxes, some of us would, or could, lose our jobs. Would we vote for them?
Or, on the other hand, told us they were cutting taxes, giving us a generous bonus, yet knowing we were possibly being misled, with two contrasting policies, who would we vote for?
Option A Knowing this is good in the long run,
or option B knowing it could be an empty promise.
The trouble with truth is, it is something that always exposes falsehood, whereas lies wards off the truth, until consequences catch up. That is like sin, or wrong doing, it will come calling -- eventually, I have opted for the truth. It carries mercy and promises, whereas the alternative -- ?!?

John 1:4-8
In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, and his name was John. The same came as a witness of that Light. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. KJV

John 3:19-21 And this is the condemnation, the the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practising evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds will be clearly seen, that they have been done in God
