The fighting was over

Alamo

by Aussie

The only part standing was the doors
Soldiers collected ammo from floors
Brave men lay dead and dying
The victors gave the coup' de grace

The brave men trying to hold the Alamo
Running out of bullets, fear taking over
They tried to defend what belief they had
Still the doors stood amongst the rubble

History tells the tale on film and written
Down the years; the doors stand firm
Closed to intruders, stout wood frame
Why were they left standing - who knows?

Perhaps they had a spiritual meaning
Closed to one and all that invaded
No bullets touched them
Wooden doors - gateway to Paradise

Club Entry for 'doors. Roughly based on the Battle for the Alamo. To me, the doors in the photo looked Mexican.
