Portal to the Past

Adopted, I researched a tree

Got hooked on genealogy

And now I'll know the truth at last

I found a portal to the past


The bits and pieces I collect

I should not judge nor disrespect -

There may be some that flabbergast

I found a portal to the past


Behind this door my great-aunt waits

My beating heart anticipates

Our sharing knowledge she's amassed

I found a portal to the past


Whatever stories she can share

I'll treasure with the utmost care

In life, deep roots keep one steadfast

I found a portal to the past
