A villanelle written in honor of my husband.

Owen's Villanelle

by Chris Davies

Oh, how I cried the day he died.
He slipped the mortal bonds of earth.
Winged to heaven at the angel's side.

He'll now amongst the stars abide
So little left of all he's worth
Oh, how I cried the day he died.

Left alone, no one beside
No more the laughter, love or mirth,
Winged to heaven at the angel's side.

Move on they said, and I have tried
to search my soul for this rebirth.
Oh, how I cried the day he died.

Heaven took what I'm denied
And increased its unworldly girth.
Winged to heaven at the angel's side.

When he took that final ride
I thanked the Lord and lied.
Oh, how I cried the day he died,
Winged to heaven at the angel's side.
