A free verse poem on missile attack.

On the verge.

by Seshadri_Sreenivasan

Who has launched a nuclear missile?
China or North Korea or Iran?
The missile is coming; the missile is coming
Hypersonic Warhead is coming

ICBM launched is aimed at the United States
the warhead descends at high speeds
back through the earth’s atmosphere
toward the ground.
the missile will perforate,

Accurate impact will damage
targeted military assets,
buildings, planes, ships.
destroying entire cities.

Could we prevent it from arriving?

Will US homeland interceptor missiles collide
and destroy incoming missiles?

Is United States’ missile defence system
as reliable as people might think?

Can the forces of the highest nature
win for the whole of humanity?

Is there a way to end the war?

Replace the worn-out concepts of war
War should not be our nature.

bring back anti-war slogan of the 60s
“Make love, not war.”

Too late to think
Ground-penetrating missile has struck
Impact  too fast to see
with the naked eye,
Total blackout.
