Once frozen, now...

An Altered Heart

by Boogienights

I kill men for a living, and I do it well.
In fact, the very best at it as far as I can tell.
Their stories do not matter, my targets mostly bad,
and those meeting their fate find me, not the least bit sad.

I make lots of money, that fact is quite true,
though very bloody are the jobs that I am tasked to do,
A knife, a gun, or garrote, makes no difference at all,
so skilled in all their uses, those I target always fall.

Possessions never stir me; my wants and needs are few.
On myself little is spent, as my fortunes accrue.
Cold inside is what I feel, but only just one part.
For of late this killer, has a grown a tender heart.

Almost every cent I make, goes to one in need,
a tiny shelter child has caught my heart indeed.
Captured by two blues eyes, once seen, has touched a place
I never knew existed until I saw her face.

I never knew that love could grow in such a barren soul.
But it sprang forth and filled with light, what was an empty hole.

Since then...

I took her from the places where hurt and hunger dwell.
Now cared for by someone I trust, her sadness would dispell.
I oversee her life and make sure her needs are met,
she blossoms under watchful eyes, with a happy future set.

There is coldness still within me and contracts to be filled,
I push humanity down deep, there's many to be killed.
There is no doubt she changed me, now a new path will unfold,
though what my future life will be right now is still untold.

Satisfied with every kill; guilt never plays a part.
Born to be just what I am, I doubt a brand-new start.
Most unexpected was this turn but I don't feel regret,
that two blue eyes melted my heart the first time that we met.

An altered heart that I can't change,
my life I can not rearrange.
Accepting is all that I can do,
'till my short time on earth is through.
