I am my Father's Child

My Heavenly Father

by John Cranford

My Father Contest Winner

I had an earthly father
He left when I was young
I never felt his love for me
I never was his son.

My mother took my father’s place
She filled my life with joy
But then God chose to take her too
When I was just a boy.

I don’t know why He did that
I didn’t understand
But when I stumbled and I fell
He held me in His hand.

He carried me in times of war
With danger all around
The bullet that was meant for me
Became a harmless round.

I have a heavenly Father
He’s been there all the while
His mercy’s real, His grace abounds
I am my Father’s Child.
