A Rispetto poem

The Gate

by damommy

The rusty hinges creak no more,
eroded on the tilting pole,
no longer swings as days of yore,
erosion, time has taken toll.
No children swinging on the gate,
the fence no longer standing straight,
and nothing left but dark despair,
but none to see.  There’s no one there.

A Rispetto, an Italian form of poetry, is a complete poem of two rhyme quatrains with strict meter. The meter is usually iambic tetrameter with a rhyme scheme of abab ccdd.
