They can be sweet as honey
But they have another side to them
Where they can also be as hurtful as a knife

Here's a story
My friends complimented my outfit today
Using words
I smiled graciously at them
The next minute
I heard them in the hallway
They were using words about me again
But this time,
It was evil
Filled with venom
So vicious were the words
I would never forget it
Even as they said sorry once they realized I had known
The wound on my heart was already dripping with blood
I knew that it would heal, eventually
But there would be a scar left behind
