All together, go ...!

Great work, team!

by Wendy G

Ants we are, and we are a team
And do you know that it would seem
Working as one, we can achieve
More than you would ever believe!

We teach others to find food to eat -
A great activity, hard to beat ...
Special treats we share with others -
For we are all sisters and brothers!

We all think it's better to share
Show for each other concern and care
We also help to carry a load
Right back home, to our own abode.

We assist our team as best we can
Protect our nests from those called "man"
Standing together, our work we do
So all will be helped – it feels good too.

I wonder if children are the same
When together they play a game?
For each one has a role to play
To teach, share and care, every day.

Often one ant is a supervisor - his role is to guide and direct, so he still makes his own contribution!

Find some ants outside and watch them. Put a couple of crumbs of food down for them and see what they do. When a worker ant finds some food, she takes a piece back to the nest, leaving an invisible trail that the other workers can smell. They follow the trail to the food and help collect it too.

Ants teach other ants how to find food using a poking and prodding technique called "tandem running," a new study reveals.
Ants work together and use their combined strength to move things around and come together to defend their nests against common enemies.

They work together as a team because they know that working together will give better results than working as individuals.
