This parabola is really just a graph showing how we increase in our independence (physical and emotional) - from being helpless as infants to fully independent as adults, and then back again, needing physical and emotional support as we age, a process we dread.
Hopefully we have maximum time being independent and not too much need to depend on others towards the end of life.
We still need to be wanted and needed, in a healthy way, regardless of our independence and dependence.
This parabola reflects the converse of a spiritual walk - so there is always that tension and balance to be achieved.
Some things to reflect on.
