A poem for children about Halloween
The Children's Monster Parade
by AliMom
I used to be afraid of the darkness
And the scary stuff it brings
Of bumps in the night and howls and squeaks
And horribly frightening things
My parents tried hard to assure me
You mustn't be afraid
Other boos and ghouls will be waiting for you
In the children's monster parade
Under covers my head I would hide
Hoping monsters would stay out of view
And I wouldn't peek out 'til the sun I could see
And the sky was a comforting blue
So, my parents took me out for a drive
Showed me stars in a dark velvet sky
Fireflies flew past us whirling in space
Sparkling as they fluttered by
Our town sat in glittering splendor
Welcome said each window and door
I may have been missing some good things at night
Perhaps it is time to explore
I'm still a little afraid
But we're going out late next week
To join the children's monster parade
And cavort through dimly streets
My parents will hold my hand
And I will walk safely between
And we'll trick or treat for candy and treats
On the night that we call Halloween

When you're little there's some trepidation about going out in the dark. Then you discover what fun it is and it becomes less creepy.
