A short note on the famous Murphy's Law.

Murphy's Law

by Seshadri_Sreenivasan

Sometime back I wrote about Murphy’s Law. The adage that ‘Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong' seems to be in play in the world we live in today! With a vengeance.

Nothing’s perfect. But it helps make one cautious, take precautions, and adopt measures to prevent, mitigate and reduce the likelihood of disasters.

There also exists a "corollary" to Murphy's Law, called Finagle's Law of Dynamic Negatives, which states ‘anything that can go wrong, will, at the worst possible moment.’

Sadly, these two laws are very much working in our world;24x7.

I was able to search and trace a few more gems from anti-intellectuals in various fields.

1.Chisholm’s Law.
When things are going well, something will go wrong.
Corollaries:
When things can’t get any worse, they will.
Anytime things appear to be going better, you have overlooked something.

Ile’s Law:
There is always an easier way to do it.

Corollaries:
รข??
When looking directly at the easier way, especially for long periods, you will not see it.
Neither will Iles.

Finagle’s First Law.
If an experiment works, something has gone wrong.

Peer’s Law.
The solution to a problem will change the nature of the problem.

Young’s Law
All great discoveries are made by mistake.
Corollary.
The greater the funding the longer it takes to make the mistake.

Parkinson’s Law.
The progress of science varies inversely with the number of journals published.

Truman’s Law.
If you cannot convince them, confuse them.

That’s it for today. I am looking for more. In case you can come up with something, I would like to collect them and post it during X-mas time. That should make the New Year sparkle.

Cheers!
