On the Street Where I Live

by AliMom

I think you'd love it here. It's quiet, secluded, and very private, tree-lined, good schools, great restaurants nearby. A measure of caution must be exercised when you live here though. The neighbors are nice enough but they are a little...different.

For instance, Saturday, I went to walk my dog Max, a lively and excitable poodle and he snapped the leash and took off around the corner chasing my neighbor's wolfhound. You know, poodles, though small imagine themselves to be far larger and more ferocious than they truly are, and before I could stop him, he was off and running. A minor quarrel ensued and my neighbor ate him. Poor, Max! That was the last time I saw him alive. My neighbor apologized profusely, of course, and reminding me about the strict leash laws and the folly of walking small dogs on full moon nights, offered to replace him. But I had to concede that it had been partially my fault and declined his kind offer. I reminded him that he should watch his diet more carefully. He howled with laughter at that one and we remained cordial.

Then there is the neighbor on the right side of me who uses an inordinate amount of electricity creating huge outages at least twice a week. I've gone next door to complain but his man-servant, Frank, a tall fellow with Goth tattoos very similar to barbed wire, explained that they were not impacting my bill next door and offered to do their work only on weekends. I suggested solar power as an alternative. His roommate, a doctor I think, said he would give it serious consideration.

My neighbor on the left is the strangest of all. He only comes out in the evenings and has a preference for dinner suits. He's very aristocratic and speaks fondly of the old country. He has invited me to his home for dinner on many occasions but we can't seem to coordinate our schedules so that I can accept his kind invitation. He has several beautiful women living there but I'm not certain whether they are wives, daughters, or girlfriends. Judging by their attire, they might be call-girls but he seems far too sophisticated to be a pimp.

There are quite a few other interesting characters but I must be off now. I'm drying out and must be off to the lagoon for my mud bath. I think you'd love it here. Talk to Freddy, our realtor on the corner. He's a dream.
