Sweet Love

Forty-Nine Years

by Yardier

I know a sweet gal
I see her every day
We've been married forty-nine years
Give or take a few days

The carpet is worn down the hall
And the house needs a little paint
The children are all grown
We like it that way

We don't go out that much
We like to sit and talk
About the blessings in our life
How they never seem to stop

We hold hands with tenderness
And I steal a kiss now and then
We hold each other tight
We're each other's best friend

I love that sweet gal
And the way she loves me
When I look into her eyes
I see God smiling at me

You know when I look back
At that day so long ago
When we shared our vows
Little did I know

I'd find myself today
Gazing upon my bride
Fumbling for the words to say
Yes, I'll stand by your side

Another forty-nine years
It’s such a short time to love
We’ll walk hand in hand
Giving thanks to God.

What a ride.
1st Woman: Young, lovely and full of lust for life. Climbed mountains, crossed oceans, drank wine and swooned beneath the Aura Borealis.

2nd Woman: Maturing, reflective with determined passion. Macrame, children, homemade bread, and wine. Violin Vibrato and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

3rd Woman: Carries a Glock 40, dry camps on the shores of Baja at the foot of the Sierra de la Gigantas. Laughs at scorpions, free dives for chocolatae clams, spices Herradura tequila with Tabasco and lime spritz.

4th Woman: Manages a regional non-profit Breast Cancer support organization. Prods, pushes, mentors grandchildren through music lessons. Sips Miners Iced Tea on the shores of Montana's Bitterroot River. Keeps the fire burning overlooking Flathead Lake.

Did I mention she keeps the fire burning? She keeps the fire burning!

Four very different loving and demanding women in one wife of forty nine years.

Thank God I have the VA.
