Lady Gray determined not to swoon in the presence of Lord Haines. Swooning was quite outdated.
'Darling,' Mama repeated to Papa,' Haines is charming, youngish and endowed with a sizeable fortune.'

Catching sight of Haines's greying locks, she reached for her woollen bonnet.
'Mama's wordsmith ways spared my blushes,' she murmured.
