This is What My Crazy Family is

Tiny terrors roam about
Happily laughing, shooting water at things
Irritably my father shouts
Stop it, or your necks I'll wring

It's raining out my mother says
Show patience, they are only kids

When will they learn not to run indoors
Harassing the pets and trying my wits
All the walls are wet and so are the doors
They're tearing our poor house to bits

Mom said they have to play inside
You'll wish someday they'd stayed this size

Children of their own they'll have
Running around, too busy to call
And when they have kids of their own
Zero's the times
You'll see them at all

Figuring my mom was probably right
And knowing how this game would end
My father considered his watery plight
Intentionally shooting at mom and then
Laughing and frolicking with us at play
Yelled your kids will get you back one day

It's what parents say to their kids when they're pests
Soggy parents who laugh last still laugh best

This is dedicated to my awesome parents. Often, when we got up to mischief, we got into trouble. Just as often, they joined us because they recognized that kids will be kids. They also recognized those famous words parents live by, "Wait until you have children of your own". We never believe them until we have children of our own. The legacy of love and fun passes on too.
