Family Roots

by June Sargent

When roots run deep, a tree stands strong
Strong family ties protect and bind
Bind bits and pieces from the past
Past histories we've left behind

Behind the veil of time we share
Share DNA, plus hopes and dreams
Dreams shelter us from sudden storms
Storms pass, revealing sun's bright beams

Beams guided pioneers who sought
Sought new frontiers to build a home
Home full of tender love and joy
Joy rooted them - no need to roam
