This work has reached the exceptional level
Foreign exchange student plans do not always go to plan!

Double Entendre

by Beejay

The school has just phoned with a message to say,
A student from France is coming to stay,
Well, we have a box room and a second w.c.
Our Jenny's so shy, so she'll have company,
She's sixteen, so quiet, so very demure,
So the girl from the Continent will help her, I'm sure
To blossom with confidence, and she'll become very fluent
In French and vice-versa, for our Parisian student.

Well, I've scrubbed and I've cleaned the best that I can,
I've placed a new toilet duck in the gleaming white pan,
I've baked and I've frozen traditional meals,
We'll only be eating proper English cuisine,
We'll take her to Ilkley, climb the Cow and the Calf,
Then a fish and chip supper, we don't do things by half!
A visit to Scarborough, a real Yorkshire sea- side,
And a game of French cricket, if the sea's at low tide.

Well, we waited anxiously for a knock on the door,
We stuttered and stammered, then uttered, "Bonjour!"
For standing before us was a teenage French boy,
Not a mademoiselle for our Jenny, so coy.
Well, we had to forgo all of the trips that I'd planned,
He was so eager to learn English with our Jenny at hand,
He crammed and recited phrases and verbs,
Irregular ones that I'd never heard!

He spent every minute, every hour, shut up in that room,
And with Jenny as his teacher, it was all over too soon,
It was time for our student to bid us adieu,
Jenny did blossom, she definitely knew
How to speak French, for our bi- lingual daughter
Had, had private tuition in things she'd not oughta!
Well, since that French visit our lives aren't the same,
'Cos he's left our poor Jenny expecting a bairn !

Thank you super gold for the amazing Eiffel Tower art work.

A box room. A very small bedroom.

W.c. Water cistern (toilet)

Cow and Calf. High on Ilkley Moor in Yorkshire, the Cow and the Calf rocks are a large rock formation of an outcrop and boulder. They are so named because one is large with the smaller one sitting close to it like a cow and calf.

French cricket. An informal form of cricket for children usually played in parks or on beaches

Bairn Yorkshire dialect for a baby or child.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
