A Group Hug

by Beejay

Lime and Lemon had been friends forever,
Since they were tiny pips,
They grew on trees in the heat of Spain,
'Til it was time for their exciting trip.

Lemon said adios to the lemon grove,
And to Lime,vamos a ver,
As they were packed in crates and couldn't wait,
To enjoy their new life, elsewhere.

Lemon and Lime, friends together,
Were side by side on the market stall,
Patiently waiting to be chosen,
When, Lime rolled off and took a fall!

"Don't leave me Lime, I need you,"
Lemon shouted, but no one heard,
A sea gull swooped down and grabbed him,
Lime was in the beak of a bird!

"Don't hurt him" shouted Lemon,
"Please don't give him a squeeze,
But Lime's sharp, sour taste, showed on gull's face,
And it quickly dropped Lime to the breeze.

"Come on, follow me,"shouted Lemon,
As the limes and lemons rolled off the stall,
And managed, somehow, to get to the ground
In time to cushion Lime from his fall.

Lime was so very happy, and very, very pleased,
He was safe, but needed a group hug,
And all the lemons and limes agreed,
But someone hugged a little more than they should,
And the hug turned into a squeeze!!

Poor Lemon, poor Lime, the forever friends,
Unfortunately they were no more,
For they had both come to sticky end,
Squeezed dry upon the floor!!

Once again, many thanks to supergold for the art work.
Lemon comes across a bit needy, that was not my intention!
Plus, I do believe he has a very high pitched voice, just in case one wants to read the poem aloud!
And yes Lemon and Lime are both male gender...
Hope you have fun reading this as I did writing it. Thank you
